1. I don't have enough money to do what I need to to be able to support my family!
Answer:- I will spend less on crap and save more, I will also save all of my 20p pieces (if you live in the UK) - or other small denomination coins if you are in the rest of the world.
2. I don't have enough time to spend on building my business!
Answer:- I will work on my things in the evening and 1 day at the weekend. I will also forgo heading out / watching TV to make this change happen
3. I don't have sufficient knowledge
Answer:- I recognise that this is an excuse because I know that I had more clients when I actually new less. I will go back to basics!
So as you can see there are 3 possible reasons that are stopping you from making progress, and 3 possible courses of actions you can take to get around the blockage on your path.
But truthfully there may be more because I don't know anything about your personal circumstances but what I do know is this:-
To quote a lady called Marie Forleo "everything is figureoutable!"
So what course of action can you follow?
Taking a look at my own situation - I found that my business had reached a plateau and that the growth had ceased, it was going nowhere fast!
So I went right back to the basics and two of the first questions I asked myself were -
Why did I become a coach?
Did what I was doing now fit in with the original concept I had of the business?
I was brutally honest with myself and the answers that came up were that I did it to help people like myself who were "stuck in a rut" or "in a dead end job, with no real prospects" and I thought I could make better money doing that than I could coach driving. The next question (again answered honestly) revealed that the path I was currently on did not fit the original concept.
I now believe that the reality that faced me was that I had nobody I could turn to to give me the answers about getting back on track.....I just had to figure it out for myself!
Oh yes, there were people who could give me answers for sure, but those answers were always going to be skewed by their own personal judgments such as "what worked for them" and "how they thought I could do better by........"
So now, armed with these insights, I have set about rebuilding my coaching career. It would be wrong of me to say that it was easy, and that I am now exactly where I want to be because it hasn't been easy and I am not yet where I want to be but I realise now that this is fine.....I am rebuilding from the inside, I am adding new skills to my "Coaching Toolkit" and I am also learning so much as I go along this route.
One major lesson I have learned is this - instead of grabbing every client who happened to cross my path, I have become more discerning and if they don't fit with the methods and practices that I use, then I don't take their business.
And I must say that taking that decision has led me to getting better clients and those better clients have helped me to produce the workbooks and other things that are a much better fit with where I want to be.
So to return to the question I asked right at the beginning of this post -
What Is Holding You Back? - take a close and honest look at your situation because you might find that the main cause of you standing still is you yourself!
