Hi it's Dave and thank you for joining me on this week’s blog.
While
I was thinking about the content for the week it dawned on me that something
that could prove useful would be a few tips to assist with cutting through the
chaos that we all live with. So here are a few tips that I came up with that I
have divided into four sections:-
1. Be Brave
When you are thinking about change it is normal to concentrate on how you would
like your life to be different. That is perfectly alright because taking the
time to reflect on what you want creates the foundation for long lasting
changes
You can become immersed in pulling together ideas and inspirations for creating
a different style for way of living but to make change happen you have to move
on from thinking to doing.
If you don’t seem to get to that stage there may be some subconscious
resistance to letting go of the chaos. You might want things to be simpler but
there is also a part of you that questions if you have been successful enough
to justify getting off the treadmill.
Be brave, commit to making some changes, because small changes can make big
differences. Turn off push notifications
on your phone, change multitasking into doing one thing at a time, begin your
day with a few minutes meditation and then, once you have created a bit more
headspace, the decision-making process regarding bigger changes will seem so
much easier
2. Set Intentions
Do
you have a naturally curious mind are you always open to ideas and projects?
Are you an imaginative type of person? You
do? It is possible that you will find it hard to determine where is best to focus
your energy, and this can leave you feeling that you are all over the place,
that you lack direction and you may feel overwhelmed.
Slowing down and making things simpler might be a sticking point for you
because you thrive on new things and you find it hard to say no to the things
that seem as if they could be quite interesting.
These are things that you have to face up to if you want to live simply, life
because spreading yourself too thin and often means that you don’t see your
ideas come to fruition.
If you get clear on your goals then it will seem easier to focus.
If you are offered an opportunity ask yourself this will it take me closer to
or further away from my goal?
However if you don’t have clear goals to begin with start looking at your values,
what really matters to you and then ask which of all the ideas I am interested
in all those that are in line with my values think about your way of being
rather than what you want to our
3. Put Yourself First!
You
already know that it makes sense to put your own oxygen mask on first before
helping anybody else.
You are great at telling other people to look after themselves and you are
likely only paying lip service to caring for yourself
Often you tolerate the stresses and strains that are attached to people pleasing
maybe you want a simple life or more time to think about what you really do
want but then you find your agreed to take on extra work or help someone out
and run the risk of personal burnout
Why not sit down and make a plan for a simpler week do you want to have more
time in the evenings to read do you want to have a morning walk, take a
leisurely stroll around or just sit and people watch with a cup of tea or
coffee.
Being anxious about not having enough time is a big cause of stress So it is
important to allow yourself time for being calm and clear during your week. You
might have to say no to people more often because wanting to be liked by
everyone is just trying to control the uncontrollable and you can’t find
clarity with this as your default setting.
4. Stop Making
Comparisons
If
you are not careful it becomes very easy to find yourself trapped in a loop of
comparison and despair. It makes no difference how hard you push there will
always be someone who seems to achieve more than you do.
You are seeking clarity but you are questioning whether it is
alright to want a simple life. You might find that there is a conflict between
what your gut is telling you matters and the message that jump out at you from Social
Media. Everybody around you seems to be busier than you are but ask yourself
this:- Are they?
It is hard to buck the trend and be the only person who is
taking time and space to reflect on what they are doing. That is an old wise
saying which comes out as don’t compare your insides to somebody else’s
outsides.
Find a positive role model, someone who seems to balance
achievement and success with enjoyment and a good quality of life. Know that it really is possible to reach your
full potential without sacrificing happiness and emotional well-being!
Simply ask yourself when are you at your most creative? When
are you most focused? When do you feel calm and in control when do you feel
stressed and exhausted?
