This week's post is about
"running free".
So many of us are so tied to our "work" or our "home" etc. that we do not know what it is like to be totally free!
We have no idea how it feels to observe the beauty of the night sky, to stand in the middle of a rain shower or to be breathing the rarified air on the top of a distant hill. Any yet, these are only a few of the beautiful things that we could (and should) experience as we pass through this life.
In that moment the horse decided to make the journey back to the park, to be greeted by the owners. It was led to the stable and bedded down for the night.
A number of years ago I had the chance to experience freedom and it was one of the most amazing times of my life - but I have to say that I did miss the "creature comforts" of home and although that was a bit of a problem I would not swap that experience for anything.
I was reminded of this experience by a story I read recently. It is a story about a little girl whose family took her to an adventure park and there she saw a horse that was living its' day to day life giving rides to children. The horse was well cared for and to all intents and purposes it wanted for nothing.
It dutifully carried the children around the farm every day but the girl wondered what it thought about!
Did it dream of escaping one day and running perfectly free or did it simply accept that life was the way it was and that was how it was meant to be?
Neither she, nor anyone else would ever know what thoughts went through that horse's mind, but one day as the park was closing someone carelessly left the gate open....... and
The horse escaped!
It galloped over the fields with the wind blowing through its mane. Eventually it came upon a river and stopped to take a drink and then it realised it was hungry but did not know what it was going to do for food. The horse knew nothing about fending for itself so it just carried on walking and eventually it happened upon a farmyard. The air was thick with the smell of newly cut grass and the horse followed the aroma, eventually finding the storage area the horse began to eat its fill.
"How lovely" it thought as it ate but there were other thoughts running through its mind as well, one being the warm comfy stable that it had at the park, all the children that it enjoyed being around every day.
In that moment the horse decided to make the journey back to the park, to be greeted by the owners. It was led to the stable and bedded down for the night.
After a comfortable night's sleep the horse was taken to a huge field where there were several other horses.
It seems that the owner had experienced a realisation! He had realised that horses were much like human beings, they needed their freedom, they needed to be able to wander and roam with others of their own kind.
He now understood that he had been misguided and that he had really been unkind to the horse over the years, it needed to have the freedom to do it's own thing and also it needed to have and experience the companionship of others.
It is my belief that as humans we also need the same things!
We need to experience our freedom, to be able to move around and to mix with like minded people - we need to be able to travel and to return home as and when we feel the need.
Only this way can we live the lives that we were truly destined to live.
