It is a fact that everything we do that we do not consciously
think about is a habit and this refers to not only the good things but also the
bad.
I believe that it is important to stop and think about the habits
we have and whether they are being helpful or not.
If you don’t think that you have what it takes to do this! You need to stop
that sort of thinking immediately, because you most definitely do!
Remember
when you were a child? You were probably
told that you could do anything that you wanted.
You
simply had to set your sights on what you want to do and start working towards
it.
It
simply does not matter whether you were at the bottom of the class or if you
were an honours degree student!
If
you really want, want, want something then you can find a way!
If you want to
say No then say it!
The
power to say No is within you and if you want to say No then do so.
(It
might be hard but there are ways to deal with that issue and that will be the
subject of a forthcoming blog).
One
important thing to learn is how to say what you actually want to say. I understand that feeling (because I have had
a similar problem) and it is no small thing.
However,
it is really important that you are able to make wise decisions so that you can
move forwards in life. Doing this will
take you towards what you actually want.
Saying
yes to things you don’t want actually prevents you from saying yes to the
things that you do want.
It
is a part of being a mature adult that you know who you are and that you are
committing with certainty to your personal choices
Don’t wait to
celebrate small victories!
If
you are working towards paying of your debts or if you are in the process of
giving up smoking, don’t wait to celebrate reaching you goal. Give yourself a pat on the back for smaller
successes along the way.
By
celebrating these smaller achievements as you make progress, you cannot help
but attract more success. This will help
and you will reach your overall goal a lot faster and you will be more relaxed
as you do so.
Stop comparing
yourself to other people!
If you are like me, this is a hard one!
It is very easy to look at your friends and acquaintances and see
them moving ahead with their lives much quicker than you are.
We see them and we compare ourselves to them.
If you catch yourself doing this STOP!
You are not in competition with them so why on earth would you
compare yourself to them? Remember, they
are not you so why make comparisons?
Stop trying to
help people who do not ask for your help!
Stand this one on its head!
The simple phrase is “help people who need your help and who
actually want you to help them!”
If you are at a point in your life where you are able to help
someone but they do not ask you to, take a step back.
Let them make their own choices and ultimately live with the
consequences of their decisions – most likely they will not appreciate you
interfering!
Help those who need your help and who will appreciate your
assistance.
This can be really difficult if you have a family member or a
close friend who continually asks for you help in ways that are negative.
You have to be prepared to set clear boundaries.
Do Not Be Your
Own Worst Enemy!
Stop thinking negative thoughts about yourself and getting in your
own way. This is guaranteed to stop you
from living a better life!
Be the best you can be, ensure that you are thinking thoughts that
support whatever you are aiming towards.
Practice Gratitude every day.
A good idea is to write down in both the morning and evening (every day),
all of the things that you are grateful for.
Do not allow yourself to feel like a victim! You can change!
Do Not Blame
Other People For Your Circumstances!
This is so easy to do!
If you are in the habit of blaming other people for the way your
life is turning out, it is time to stop RIGHT NOW!
Irrespective of your life’s situation (a hard childhood, a spoiled relationship or something else completely out of your control), it is very easy
to blame other people!
Blaming others puts you into “victim” mode and this is extremely
dis-empowering! It will ultimately keep
you in the very circumstances you do not like!
Even if you find yourself in a situation resulting from the
actions of another person, putting the blame onto them creates the following
overall effect:-
You keep yourself stuck and you do not live your life to the
fullest.
Stop living
from week to week!
If you are always living from pay day to pay day, there is nothing
to do but stop or cut down on your expenses – such as eating out or going to
the pub.
Having a financial margin makes you much happier and cuts down
stress. There is a great saying which
you can use to help you and it is
“It is far
better to want than to owe!”
Stop thinking
about “scarcity”!
If you are in the habit of always thinking about lack then it is
imperative that you put an end to these thoughts immediately.
“Scarcity” thinking means that you believe life is limited and
believe there is always a winner and a loser.
You resent competition and are fearful. Scarcity thinkers almost always think small!
Conversely someone who thinks in terms of abundance always thinks
that there is more to come. They think
big and are confident, thankful people.
Stop talking
about people behind their backs!
It is imperative to get out of this habit immediately – it a bad
habit that needs to be stopped!
If you are sharing that sort of conversation with someone then you
can be certain that they will be having a similar conversation with someone
else about YOU!
It is also a known fact that if you are talking about someone
negatively the person you are talking to will associate you with the qualities
that you are describing.
To illustrate:-
if you are talking to Mike about Paul being really annoying, then
Mike will subconsciously believe that you are really annoying.
So when you have a negative thought about someone, keep your mouth
closed and choose not to voice it. Over
time you will start to say only good things about people and this will attract
positive people into your life.
And finally –
Stop Watching So Much Television!
Watching television rarely adds anything to your life!
It is surprising exactly how many hours of your life are wasted
sitting in front of a box in the corner of the room. I would recommend putting that time into
something useful and more meaningful. It
has been suggested that the optimum television viewing time is around an hour
per day.
So maybe
even I need to find the off switch more often!
