Grey Hair Does Not Equate To Being “Over The Hill”

Hi and welcome to Under Blue Skies.

One of the things that surprises me is that people often make the assumption that if a person has grey hair they must, by definition, be “over the hill”.

I take some exception to such stereo typing in view of the fact that whilst it is accepted that life expectancy is edging towards greater length with each new generation, it is quite alarming that for some people,  the stereotypical image of a grey haired person being in their dotage still applies.

This has become more apparent in recent years where there have been many changes in Social Media, travel and the like.  Communication in general is particularly targeted to the younger element of society.

Without wishing to be disrespectful to the generation of people known Millennials, they seem to believe that they are the technical experts of the “new age”.  But it is probably a truism that there may have been similar criticisms  aimed at the “Baby Boomers” of an earlier generation.

I have witnessed many displays of “talking down” to older people using terms such as “This is modern technology and you would not understand that” but conversely I have also seen many older citizens actually refusing to embrace technology because it is “confusing” or “too gimmicky”

For clarification purposes research into the term “Millennials” revealed that “there are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends; demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years”.

It has been said that “life moves so fast” in the 21st Century but personally I have fun keeping up.  I blog, I vlog, I travel extensively and I have absolutely no intention of slowing my pace of life at all!

So if you are fortunate enough to have black or blonde hair rather than grey please take solace in the knowledge that you are far less likely to be considered out of touch than if those grey hair follicles are sprouting happily atop your head.
