Morning Routines

Morning Routines

Hi and welcome to this week’s blog.  Originally this post was going to be in video format but in all honesty this week has been so hectic that I have been unable to fit filming into the schedule, and yes, that is possibly something I need to work on for myself but that is another story.

So anyway the reality is that this is a written post and it is on the subject of “Morning Routines

Let me first outline what I believe these routines are or should be…….

I believe that “Morning Routines” are the way in which you set yourself up for the day ahead of you.  They are a way to ground yourself and becoming more centred and therefore able to make the day into something that works for you instead of the other way round.

Next, they allow you to connect with your body, to focus on the important things and finally to become more self aware.

And the only way to do this is to begin and to do that you have to start the process by Getting Up Early!

The Hour of Power
Make the first hour of your day especially about and for you.  Use this time purely for yourself (yes go on, be selfish!).   This time is a time to focus on your body, listen to what it is telling you.  Do not check in with other people, avoid social media and emails – this is YOUR time.

Email Disconnect
If you are anything like me this is a big power drainer.  I used to check me emails (religiously) first thing in the morning and more often than not left the house feeling pressured, grumpy and miserable.  Now though, since I have turned my back on that habit and I do not check them until I get to the office I feel much better personally and less stressed before I go to work.

Move Your Body
You can also use this early time for moving your body – since the incident a couple of month ago where our holiday was severely damaged because of an issue with a trapped nerve I have been forced to take time to move about in the mornings in order to work the stiffness away.  (It feels good and is definitely something I will be continuing for the foreseeable future!)

Hydrate Yourself (and keep on doing so)
This is so very important because we humans are made up of a lot of water.

It is estimated that up to 60% of the human body is water and that (according to HH Mitchell in the Journal of Biological Chemistry 158) the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, the lungs about 83% water and the skin contains 64% water.

Have you ever noticed that when a headache occurs drinking a couple of glasses of water can quickly remedy the situation?

In addition to bringing your body back to life you could also utilise this hour for journaling or reading / doing something else that is positive and designed to help set you up for the day ahead.

Eat Breakfast
It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  It quite literally means to “break fast”.  It is quite possible that (dependent upon meal times etc.) you may have gone for up to 12 hours since your last intake of food.  So it is important for your body’s well being to break that fast and take on the fuel that will take you through the coming hours and function at your best.

Morning Routines can help you to become more responsive and much less reactive to situations.  Choose 2 or 3 things to respond to, you can use this time to carefully consider those responses. Do not worry if you miss something, become less judgemental of yourself.

If you have decided to journal then one suggestion could be to compile a daily gratitude journal – every day spend time writing down 5 things for which you are grateful.

Use affirmations – affirmations are positive statements that, when repeated regularly, can help you overcome challenging or negative thoughts.

An few examples of daily affirmations are

“What I do today matters!”

“In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole and complete”

“I am worthy of being happy!”

So in conclusion I would like to leave you with this thought – to be able to lead the best life you can, you owe it to yourself to give yourself the best start every day,

and that process always begins with your Morning Routines.

Have a great day, live a life of Power and Passion and above all remember
Don't Predict The Future, CREATE IT!
