Hi
This week, life has been in a bit of turmoil - road accidents (not me but someone close), a few issues at the office that needed my input and the situation with someone really close have all left their mark and impacted on my forward preparation for this week's blog.
So I decided that I would look at a collection of posts that I wrote way back in 2009 for some inspiration and something that jumped out at me was a subject that really got me thinking.
We all have things that we should STOP
We all have things that we should CONTINUE
and
We all have things that we should START
With that said here is my list of things that I feel we could all benefit from a firm
STOP
We all have habits some of which are good and others are bad - consider yours and make a couple of lists and when that is done make a point of taking steps to get rid of the "bad" ones.
examples are:-
Living life on the phone / spending time on Social Media
So - unfollow people that don't serve your best interests. Set yourself time limits or establish set times for the use of Social Media.
Stop snoozing the alarm
When it goes off count backwards 5,4,3,2,1 and then get up.
Drinking every weekend (or evening in some cases)
High alcohol consumption is very expensive, not good for mental health. Introduce a weekly drink limit and introduce non - drinkers into your life.
Stop Unintentional Shopping
You us most likely find that if you shop ethically and thrift shops more often you will ultimately have more money in your pocket, purse or bank account.
Stop saying "sorry" too much
Take note of how often you apologise and accept responsibility for things that are not your fault. Resolve to give it up and become more mindful of your words
Stop being permanently busy
Look at your priorities, cut down on some of the mental clutter (you might find that you do more) Consider doing some "off the clock deep personal work"
Stop comparing yourself
Again Social Media is one of the big culprits for this, be aware of these "highlight wheels" that cause you to compare yourself to other people portrayals - the fact is that a lot of these are unreal. How many times have you seen the smartly dressed 20 something with the ROLEX / TaG watch, the Lambo or Ferrari. The chances are they are borrowed and the photo / story
are fakes.
True compliments are effective comparison reduction tools.
CONTINUE
Identify things that you are doing that bring joy into your life, things that help you to progress towards a better version of yourself. If you know that something you are doing is of benefit to you then you should carry on doing it.
Additionally, if you are bringing joy into some else's life you are really enriching your own life and that is something that you should really continue doing!
START
Now let us consider things that you could start that will have a positive effect on your daily life.
This is anything that contributes to your personal development and betterment and could include any or all of the following:-
A Regular Exercise Routine / Joining A Gym
Swimming
Walking instead of using the car or bus
Saving a set amount of money each week into a bank account
Meditation - can be extremely therapeutic
Journalling
So now that you have a list of ideas and you probably will have come up with some of your own, why not drop me a quick email to let me know what you things you had going on that you have stopped, what you are continuing and what you will be starting.
Make it specific, measurable and time bound
For example:- I will begin saving £10 a week, every week over the next year and 12 months from today I will have £520 extra in my bank account!
oooOOOooo
