Redesign Your Life (Part 4)
Hi and thank you for joining me for the latest post in the series
This week's piece contains the next insight from the "Ways To Redesign Your Life" project that I am currently working and it is called:–
"Don't Worry What Others Think!"
In this section I am to provide an insight into something that I feel is very important to all of us…….
It is a well known fact (at least in the circle of people that I know) that there are often certain folk who will always seek to get you to conform with what they want from you.
By doing this they are (in the truest sense) attempting to control you, to get you to bend to their will and to make you compliant with their ways, thoughts and ideas, irrespective of the consequences.
A long time ago I woke up to this fact because I was led into a situation that had a serious effect on my teenage life (I will not enlighten you what actually happened but suffice to say that the event ended up with me being carted off to the Police Station and having the "Fear of God" instilled in me).
As a result of those events I was almost (but not quite) landed with a Police Record - and all because I was naive and compliant with the flawed instructions of others.
So it was lesson learned............
Fortunately because of that incident I learned that I could make my own choices and actually I knew the difference between right and wrong.
As adults I think we all know that every single one of us was born an individual and along with that you are a "free thinker" and that the following applies to us all:-
You have the ability to make your own decisions.
You do not have to follow the dictates of other people.
You have the ability to make choices.
You are able to make up your own mind
All these exist irrespective of the thoughts of others.
Unfortunately there exists (certainly in the Western World) a culture that is particularly prevalent amongst the younger (and weaker) members of society, that consists of a belief that if they don't conform with the demands of the strong they will be cast out and ignored.
As adults (although some may disagree that I fall into that category) and parents we need to be mindful and guide the younger member of society sometimes gently and respectfully, and explain the distinction between and wrong whilst explaining to them the principle of that "whatever someone thinks of me is none of my business"
Next week we will explore the the topic of "Letting Go Of Fear"
