8 Simple Ways to Reclaim Your Life

(©2018 wytchwynd photography)

Hi and welcome to the Under Blue Skies blog on this June morning here in North Devon.  This week I decided that I might shoot myself in the foot

Seriously I was trawling through some notes that I had made recently and from those notes I discovered that my life is heading down a pathway that sometimes feels like it is not my own anymore and so starting at that point I began to compile this list of a few things you can do to Reclaim Your Life

You want a simple life style then you need to:-

REST – quite simply shut down the computer, turn off the phone and just do nothing work related.  You could go for a walk or read a book; in fact you could even take an afternoon nap

SPEND TIME ALONE – just take yourself off and be alone – away from other people’s dramas.  It is surprising how much better you can feel after a walk in nature with nothing to listen to but birdsong, babbling streams or the sounds of the animals in the fields

LOOK BACK IN TIME – look back over your life and take note of the things that are worth holding on to.  It is very therapeutic to close your eyes and drift into thinking about all of the good times you have experienced

TRY SOMETHING NEW – it could be as simple as taking up a new hobby, going to a gym, learning to cook etc.  It does not matter what it is if it gets you away from the day to day existence that you have.

DECLUTTER – how much stuff do you have in your life that you could get rid of?  I have recently cleared out my “home office” and it amazing how much c*&p I got rid of, and there is still more to do, but now I have a space that I can visit and make progress on my blog, writing etc. and in relative comfort

MAKE CONVERSATION – now this is something that started for me as a humorous comment – we met some friends in town and we stood talking for approximately half an hour.  At one point Mike said something along the lines of “let us call this thing “Street Talking – the art of social chit chat” and that has stuck and often we meet up now for 15 or 20 minutes to just stand in the street talking

SOCIAL MEDIA – it is oh so easy to spend your life writing blog posts, checking emails, Instagram, Facebook Twitter etc. and that can mean upwards of 12 hours simply staring at a screen and doing nothing constructive.

Yes I understand the need to remain connected in this digital environment but for the sake of your own sanity just turn it off every now and then and get back to doing stuff that matters – i.e. looking after YOU!

And finally TRAVEL

There is a saying that says “travel broadens the mind” and how true it is!  What is better than going to some far off country that you have never visited before?

Alison and I did exactly that earlier this year when we went to Morocco. It was somewhere we had never been, we had no idea what to expect and just went with it.  It turned into one of the most amazing holidays we have ever had – almost as amazing as a similar experience with Bulgaria.

So I wish you every success with switching off, getting out there and simply enjoying yourself for as the saying goes –

“live before you die because you are a long time dead”

Thank you for joining me on this post and I hope that you have found it interesting.  If it has sparked any ideas about what else you can do to reclaim your life please pop them into the comment box below and if I get enough I will repost them as a 2nd list of things you can help you get back to you!

Best Wishes
