Essentialism?
Hi and welcome to this week's blog post - it has come about because I was flipping through some old notebooks the other day and apparently this was a post that I had started and then for some reason never completed. So I thought that it fitted well as a part of the new "do not leave things undone" thinking I have recently adopted so I had better make use of what I had read.
So here goes:-
over the past 20 year period I have worked with people who come from various backgrounds but they have all had one thing in common and that is that they wanted to make some changes / improvements in their lives!
Because I have been doing some further research into this topic I have discovered that interestingly (to me) Essentialism goes under the banner of "The disciplined and active pursuit of less!"
Reading that got me thinking "How do we set about doing that?" and after spending some time on this thought I believe that there are several key elements to applying essentialism to our every day lives and they are:-
1) the realisation that we have a choice (we are, after all, living in quite stressful times!)
2) it is important that we consider and define our purpose
3) we need to focus on "The Vital Few........"
4) we need to be prepared to, and actually, say no!
5) we need to prioritise our tasks
6) we need to take "time out" and escape somewhere to think
7) we need to "re-learn" how to play!
8) we need to remember that sleep time is important!
Additionally we must recognise (and remember) that we are human beings and we should stop thinking we are superhuman and trying to do everything. We should also stop saying "yes" to "anything".
This then opens the way to making the best and highest contribution towards the things that really matter.
It is ok to say "No" to people, and once you get your priorities sorted then it is highly likely that people will begin to respect you
It is a simply truth that "if you don't prioritise your life, someone else will!"
