Life Coach!
Hi and thank you for joining me on this week's blog and today we are going to look at how you become a life coach!
So let me begin by acknowledging and thanking the source of the material for this post - Luisa Zhou.
So lets continue by setting a few questions in place namely:-
What is life coaching?
Do I need to hold a certificate?
How long does it take?
What is the cost?
Where to I position myself?
How much should I charge?
However, before I answer any of the above I feel that some background information is necessary.
Coaching is about helping people to change / improve the way they live their lives BUT there is one big thing that needs to be said before we go any further. Do not call yourself a "life coach". I know to my own cost that this was (and still is) a huge mistake to make. Let me illustrate this:-
If you call yourself a "life coach" and your friend calls themselves a "health coach" which one of you is going to get the most clients?
The basic fact is that "life coach" is too generic - let me ask you a question here:- What does a life coach do?
Now let me ask you this:- What does a mindset coach do and what does a health coach do?
So if you want to become a life coach I think that the best course of action is to select a niche from the many that exist.....for example
family coach / parenting coach / health coach / relationship coach
Another misconception is that you will need a certificate - the simple answer to that is NO YOU DON'T!
The thing you actually need is something that is called "relevant experience"
There are no required qualifications to become a coach - although that being said there are still some areas where certification is required before you can practice!.
So in Part 2 (coming next week) we will take a look at "how you find your niche"
