05/04/23 Communicating With Your Mind!

Thank you for joining me today on the Altered Image Blog 

Following some recent conversations I have been having with friends I feel that I need to talk about communicating with your mind.  Now, at first thought it does appear to be a rather strange concept, whereas the reality is that it is not really that odd!  Buddhist monks (and the like) have been doing this for years so why don't we?

When you make a decision to do something an ideal place to begin is by telling your mind "I have chosen to do this!"  A communication such as this begins to embed the thought, and as a result, your mind makes the unfamiliar feel familiar.

At this point it has to be said that the mind will always move you in the direction of pleasure therefore, because you have told it that this is your choice it will begin to work under that choice and follow that path.

Logically, the next step in the process is to tell your mind exactly what you want - you really need to get down to specifics here because the more detail you can add to the instruction the better your mind will be able to work on your request.

As you add these things it is necessary to indicate to your mind that getting what you want will bring you massive pleasure.  This can be pictured in your mind's eye!  See yourself in the situation, notice how happy you are, what you are feeling etc.

It is important to remember that the inner mind is the main driving force in our life.  It creates thoughts, emotions, decisions, choices and what we perceive.

Meditation has proven to be the best method of communication with the mind - so try to connect and interact with it at a personal level, by asking it questions.

Keep practicing because the more you connect with your mind the sooner you will reach your inner core which is where you will find the best solutions to your life's problems. Thank you for reading and I hope that you have found it both interesting and useful. What Is Mindfulness?

Hi it's DAve and thank you for joining me this week on the Altered Image Coaching blog.

Recently I have been chatting with some other coaches and trainers, all people who are involved in the Personal Development field.  The purpose of these conversations was to get a feeling for how they felt was the correct way forwards when getting their message out to people (all of whom could be potential clients).

Everyone agreed that it is most important to build a video presence..... and when I asked "why?" the response was again quite straightforward:-

".....because a static blog is just words and pictures and rarely does it say anything about who you are!" 

So now, going forwards, I have taken their advice on board and have chosen to create a video blog for the page instead of the static one I used to use.  

By necessity, these posts will only be short and I hope that they will provide some  very useful tips about building your own "Vision For Success"

So without further ado - here is this week's video entitled What Is Mindfulness?

It's OK To Be You!

Hi and welcome to this week's blog post.

Recently I have been chatting with some coaches and other people involved in the Personal Development field to get a feeling for how they felt was the way forwards in getting the message out to people who are also potential clients.

To a one they were all agreed that it is important to build a video presence.  When I asked why the response was again quite straightforward:-

".....because a static blog of just words and pictures does not say anything about who you are!" 

So having taken that on board I have opted to create a video blog instead of the static one for the page going forwards.  Although these posts will only be short I hope they will provide some  very useful tips about building your "Vision For Success"

4 Steps To Intuitive Eating

Thank you for joining me here on the Altered Image Coaching Blog!



Having just got through the Christmas and New Year periods I thought it might be useful (because so many people will be having concerns about their eating during the festivities) to take time to look again at how and why we eat the way we do and to offer a suggestion about changing what we can do about eating.

All too often we resort to our cravings when we make decisions concerning our nutrition or diet. We listen to our internal voice and are often likely to make decisions that do not serve us effectively!

We will often choose sugary foods and/or junk foods – because they are the sort of foods that we think will make us happy and we all know about the lull after the festivities!

However, by practicing intuitive eating and using mindfulness practices to anchor us in the "here and now" we are able to listen to our bodies own innate wisdom.

We can check out our body and listen to its messages, such as:- 

 I am thirsty / I am hungry / I am full / I am bloated (and the like).

It has to be said that there is not a “one size fits all!” solution to the situation because what works for you may not work for me or anyone else.

So here is a short guide to creating and using intuitive eating practices.

Step one
Sit in a quiet place without distractions. Observe your food, notice its’ colour / shape. Close your eyes and notice any smells or aromas.
What is happening to your body, is your mouth watering? Do you feel keen to eat the food? What are you thinking?

Just be in the moment!

Step two
Take the first bite. Notice the temperature, the texture. How does it feel in your mouth? Focus on the taste.

Continue in the same way for the rest of your mail.

Can you sense any messages from your stomach/mouth?

Step three
Close your eyes after eating and check in with your body – how do you feel? Do you feel energised? Do you feel sleepy? Are you satisfied or do you want more?

Be aware of what your body is saying as opposed to your mind.

Step four
Ask yourself how the meal has served you. Notice how you feel between different food types.

Notice the difference between messages that are coming from your body and compare them to those that are coming from your mind.

Follow the things that your body is telling you and eat intuitively then you can move forward into the New Year in a new frame of mind. 

And finally a quote from John Kabat - Zinn:-

“Mindfulness means being awake. It means noticing what you are doing!”
