FROM THE REMNANTS OF THE OLD..... COMES FORTH THE NEW!

Recently I have been spending a lot of time trying to define (and redefine) what I do for clients and how the whole process works.

As a result of this I arrived at a place that was (to say the least) rather depressing.

I have undergone several years of study and have attended several courses / seminars to obtain my qualifications (Life Coach; Music Therapist; Crystal Therapist and Reiki Master) and I am currently working towards a Diploma in Mindfulness and yet in these recent years I am rarely called upon to use them in a client / therapist situation.

Whilst all the work in a professional capacity is as a senior manager I have never styled myself as a business or career coach because I do not hold the appropriate qualifications in either of those disciplines. Therefore I have always styled myself as a Personal Development Consultant but lately I have been asking myself what the hell does that actually mean? What IS personal development anyway?

I suppose it could be said that I help clients to develop there own personal identity and gain some amount of self control and direction skills along the way. I can assist with Goal Setting, Stress Reduction and Life Mapping all of which go some way to helping clients become more confident versions of themselves. I can also help with exam nerves and relaxation.

But I ask myself - is this really the sum total of what being a PDC is all about? Recently I have been feeling pretty disillusioned by it all, I feel that something is not as it should be!

So that said I decided to begin a meditation group and the first session attracted a number of people. These sessions ran successfully for three months and then the venue had to close because of flooding. When the location became available for use again only 2 returned and the decision was taken to close the group down because it was costing me money each month.

I devised a course entitled "Take Off The Mask and Be Yourself" that has been successfully delivered on a couple of occasions and presently I am working on a follow-up that is called "The Mask of Masculinity" however I am want to present it it in a new and more 21st Century way.

While all of the history may at first appear quite depressing I feel that it has been necessary to bring me to where I am now and as a result it has made me more determined than ever to move boldly forwards. I have to say that I am very excited about this new direction. Whilst I still firmly believe that coaching / meditation and healing, together with other alternative therapies do have a place in 21st Century life there are other ways that can be utilised to bring about change.

A new workbook is currently underway and that will be somewhat different from the earlier versions

I am writing new course material and getting to grips with the new tech. that I will be using for online delivery.

I refuse to be beaten!

This project has now become a burning desire and bears the catch phrase:-

"If I can't do it local, I will do it global!"

LET THE MUSIC PLAY!

Hi everyone this post is written from a personal standpoint

I know that the current situation is adversely affecting many people around the World.

However there is one aspect of it that directly affects me and many of my friends and colleagues around the world so I feel that the time has come to lend my voice to that of the others and call for a review of a policy that has impacted severely on many of the people involved in the ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY.

HOW CAN THIS BE?

For some reason we are not deemed relevant when it comes to support from Central / Local Government despite a direct question being asked of the Chancellor of The Exchequer in open Parliament at the beginning of the Coronavirus situation in the UK.

The Chancellor was asked whether a company supplying power generators to the event industry would come under the scope of the guidelines and be eligible for support by way of rate relief. The response was quite simple "Yes they would be eligible!"

I know that several local authorities have chosen to ignore that comment and refused to support businesses trading within their areas - by using many varied excuses such as "you don't have a dedicated showroom" or "you are not open to the public" or simply "you do not meet the criteria set down"

Now we have seen in the past 24 hours announcements that 2 large theatres are about to close their doors. One of the reasons given is that the Social Distancing regulations mean that opening is simply not a viable option and without being able to open there is no income.

And just today I have seen the following

"Live music alone added £4.5bn to the economy in 2019 and supported 210,000 jobs across the UK.

Up to 50% of the live music workforce is facing unemployment bringing with it a catastrophic loss of skills.

The arenas are set to lose approximately 5 million visitors as a direct result of Covid 19.

Music festivals in the UK support around 85,000 jobs and with the summer effectively cancelled most of these events are facing collapse and the people looking at unemployment.

So this one section of the entertainment industry alone could see about 300,000 people claiming off the state".

How much is this all going to cost unless something is done to breathe life back into our event industry?
